    Picking apples
Apples are best eaten when fully ripe..
    but how can you tell?
-Sweetness develops as starches change to sugars this can be measures by staining the remaining starch with iodine. At a third starch content apple is ripe
    -Pips darken on ripening
-Apples begin to drop and pick easily
    -External colour develops
-different varieties come ripe on different dates
    - pick the best apples underipe for storage as they will continue ripening in store
    Blueberries
-Need very little pruning after 5 years prune out a few older shoots at the base to encourage young growth from ground level
-Mulch with old peat maybe from troughs and hanging baskets
